Books to Help Kids Deal with Bullying

It’s no secret that bullying and cyberbullying is an issue facing many of our children. This difficult topic is a growing problem that, even with education and awareness, isn’t going away. Just consider that data show rates of cyberbullying have tripled, with a whopping 87 percent of our kids now encountering this in some form!

Even though the whole concept of “Back To School” is somewhat distasteful to me since our summer felt like it lasted about two weeks, I’ll admit that I have read some pretty wonderful new books this season.

Some address what it is like to be at school for the first time, or what it is like to go back to school with a little trepidation.

Last Tuesday, about five hundred young readers filled the seats of Judd Hall at Vermont Technical College for the 2014 Dorothy Canfield Fisher Book Award Ceremony. You could feel the excitement in the air as soon as the students walked through the doors.
