CLiF Welcomes Megan Miley As Development Manager

CLiF is thrilled to introduce our new Development Manager Megan Miley! In her role, Megan oversees donor relations, corporate partnerships, and fundraising initiatives that help expand CLiF’s impact across Vermont and New Hampshire. Prior to joining CLiF, she most recently worked at Casella, where she helped clients such as Keurig Dr. Pepper, Ben & Jerry’s, and the University of Vermont realize their sustainability goals. She previously spent six years working in corporate development for the Maryland Public Television Foundation.

Megan moved to Vermont from Maryland in 2019, and lives in Moretown with her wife and daughter. Outside of work, you’ll find her mountain biking, skiing, hiking, volunteering at her daughter’s school, and serving as a board member for Girls on the Run.

In the interest of hard-hitting CLiF journalism, we asked Megan a few questions to get to know her better:

What initially drew you to CLiF?

I had been wanting to return to local nonprofit work. When this opportunity came up, I knew I had found my calling. In my first few weeks, I’ve spent quite a bit of time on the road attending literacy events and getting acquainted with the greater CLiF community—it’s been really fun and invigorating!

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

I’m very excited about connecting new donors and sponsors with the work CLiF is doing in communities across Vermont and New Hampshire. I look forward to sharing firsthand with donors how their generosity is helping local children.

Now that you’ve attended several CLiF literacy events, what’s stood out to you so far? 

What’s stood out to me most is seeing the difference that access and investment can make from one school community to another. Through CLiF’s Year of the Book program, schools are able to bring in new books, host authors and illustrators, and create experiences that build genuine excitement around reading for students.

How does CLiF’s mission resonate with you personally?

I was lucky to grow up with parents who loved reading and instilled an appreciation for books from an early age. Many of the children served by CLiF lack access to the resources and opportunities needed to build strong foundational literacy skills, so it’s meaningful to be part of work that can help open doors and create brighter futures for kids.

What were some of your favorite books as a child?

The books that stand out most in my memory are The Velveteen Rabbit, Wacky Wednesday, and Little Women, which provided the inspiration for my name! And of course, all of Chris Van Allsburg.

As a parent, how do books and reading feature in your family life?

My daughter is now at the age (10 years old) where she will finish a book, and then we will watch the movie together. She almost always states that the books are better. It’s just really nice to discuss what she’s reading and what she likes or dislikes about the book. 

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?

I love all things seafood, yet I live in a landlocked state. And I’m passionate about the Baltimore Orioles; I still represent my team despite living in Red Sox Nation.
