CLiF programs are provided free of charge to eligible sites and organizations in Vermont and New Hampshire. To ensure our support reaches the children who need it most, we prioritize serving under-resourced communities and populations. Our grant programs serve children ages 0-12.
All grant programs include specific descriptions, eligibility criteria, and requirements. Please review each grant page carefully and make note of any documentation needed before applying.
This program helps incarcerated adults stay connected with their children through literacy. Activities include storytelling presentations for incarcerated adults and their children; donated on-site libraries; books for parents to send home as gifts; book giveaways for children on visiting days; literacy seminars for parents to help them read with their children; and audio recordings of parents reading so they can share stories from afar.
Not open to applications.
CLiF offers this grant to community partners including affordable housing sites, shelters, English language learner classrooms, refugee programs, out-of-school time programs, and community centers. Activities and support include in-person storytelling presentations; a literacy seminar for parents and caregivers that models storytelling strategies; donated onsite libraries; and/or book giveaways.

This grant program targets our youngest readers ages 0-5 and funds family literacy events, new books, literacy backpack kits, and flex funds for program designed projects.
Who Can Apply: Community/nonprofit organizations, libraries, childcare/early education centers, parent/child centers, or public preschools located in VT and NH who serve children ages 0-5
The Literacy Enrichment grant provides $1,000 in funding toward project-oriented or experiential learning opportunities designed to bring literacy to life.
Who Can Apply: Community/nonprofit organizations, out-of-school time programs, libraries, childcare/early education centers, or public schools located in VT and NH serving youth ages 0-12.
CLiF’s Rural Library grant supports small, rural public libraries in creating excitement around reading, increasing circulation, and strengthening relationships with the communities they serve.
Who Can Apply: Public libraries serving rural communities in VT and NH.
This grant provides $500 to organizations to help them reignite enthusiasm for reading and writing programs. Options include author/illustrator visits, book giveaways and family literacy events.
Who Can Apply: Community/nonprofit organizations, out-of-school time programs, libraries, childcare/early education centers, or schools located in VT and NH serving youth ages 0-12.
CLiF’s storytelling presentations and book giveaways at youth summer programs across the Twin States are designed to inspire kids to keep reading over school vacation, thereby reducing the risk of “summer slide.” This grant offers a CLiF author/illustrator visit and book giveaway.
Who Can Apply: Summer learning programs, camps, and libraries in VT and NH serving youth ages 0-12.
The Year of the Book is an intensive grant program that supports students, staff, and families in elementary schools across VT and NH by building a culture of literacy, along with a follow-up Momentum Grant to sustain enthusiasm.
Who Can Apply: Public schools in VT and NH serving students in grades preK-6; eligibility requirements online.
