Why Your Support Matters
Literacy Can't Wait
Right now, children across New Hampshire and Vermont are losing critical ground in reading. For kids in under-resourced communities, the picture is especially stark:
Only 23 percent of New Hampshire fourth graders who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch read proficiently. In Vermont, it’s just 17 percent—among the steepest declines in the country since before the pandemic.
The stakes are high.
-
Children not reading proficiently by fourth grade are far more likely to drop out of high school.
-
They are at higher risk for unsafe behaviors, incarceration, and limited job prospects.
-
They face diminished opportunities for the rest of their lives.

With Your Help, We Can Rewrite this Story
CLiF combats this cycle by making literacy joyful.
We provide children with new books, author/illustrator visits, and creative experiences that make reading and writing fun and rewarding.
We support teachers’ goals, help librarians stock diverse shelves, and give incarcerated parents ways to bond with their children through reading.
All of this is free of charge to the schools and communities we serve. But we rely on this generosity of donors like you to make it happen.
Your gift of any size makes a direct and immediate impact. Donate securely online, send a check by mail, or contact Laura Rice to explore giving through stock or other securities, or through a legacy gift to CLiF. Thank you for your support.
