Usually we here at CLiF eat, think, breathe, and blog kids and kid’s literature. We do love them. But some days you just have to indulge your own interests.

Sometimes I just love the Internet. I really do.

Here is one thing I love about the Internet: the blog titled “Awesome People Reading.”

Of course, as soon as I give you the link, you are going to ditch us and go check it out. Just remember where you heard about it, okay?

“Awesome People Reading” is a blog that posts a new picture everyday of somebody reading (so much cooler than pictures of people watching TV, if you ask me).

But the somebody is not just “somebody.” He or she is somebody awesome.

For example, the woman in the picture above is Sylvia Beach, bookseller and publisher who opened the English language bookstore Shakespeare and Company in Paris. During the 1920’s and 30’s Beach played host to a laundry list of the greatest authors of the time, including James Joyce, D.H. Lawrence, Ernest Hemingway, T.S. Eliot, and Gertrude Stein.

Ms. Beach became a publisher in 1922 when no American booksellers would publish Joyce’s novelUlysses uncensored. During World War II Beach stayed in Paris and endured the Nazi occupation, hiding her books in a hidden apartment above her store. She is a literary hero.
