It’s #GivingTuesday, a day to take a break from all the shopping and chaos of the holidays and give back to causes that matter to you. This year, we’re raising $2,000 to provide new books for children with incarcerated parents at our partnering prisons’ holiday events, and we need your help!
Imagine being a child with a parent in prison, only getting to see your mom or dad on visiting days. We donate new children’s books for special family events (like the one pictured above this summer in Berlin, NH), including family holiday events. Families will gather to celebrate the holidays together and each child will get to choose a new book. $2,000 will provide a book of each child’s choice for our partnering prisons’ family holiday events. Every additional $15 gift allows us to send home a book to a child, selected by the parent at our December literacy seminars. Give a child in need a special holiday gift by donating today.
We partner with five prisons across Vermont and New Hampshire and send books to kids with incarcerated parents all over the country. We hold regular seminars on reading and sharing stories with kids, at which each participating inmates get to choose new books that CLiF volunteers mail home to their kids, grandkids, nieces, or nephews. Imagine having a parent in prison and getting a special new book that your mom or dad picked out just for you!
In the words of one incarcerated father, “Thank you to all the volunteers and those of you who have made this wonderful program available to us…bless you all and please know that your wondrous gift is cherished and greatly appreciated.” Thank you!
