Last night, CLiF staff, board members, past grantees and volunteers joined more than 50 folks from the Monadnock region of New Hampshire at the Mariposa Museum & World Cultures Center in Peterborough, NH to celebrate literacy and learn more about CLiF’s work promoting a love of reading and writing across the region. We all had a great time connecting with local educators, librarians, and education/literacy supporters and sharing the work we do to nurture a love of reading and writing among low-income, at-risk, and rural kids in all areas of New Hampshire and Vermont (We’re serving 160 towns across the two states in 2017!).

During the evening, we heard about the exciting work the Mariposa Museum does to educate curious minds of all ages about arts  and cultures around the globe; Kath Mullen and Megan Neurock from past Year of the Book school Cutler Elementary School in West Swanzey, NH (2013-2014 Year of the Book recipient) talked about the impact the grant had on their community; Jaffrey Public Library Director (and former Stephenson Memorial Library Director) Julie Perrin shared her experience with the Rural Library grant in Greenfield, NH this year – and how that excitement around literacy has spread to Jaffrey, NH; and CLiF Founder/Executive Director Duncan McDougall shared CLiF’s story and showed videos of our Children of Prison Inmates and Year of the Book grants (see links below). Community members had the opportunity to learn about the Year of the Book grant, which is coming to Peterborough Elementary School in the 2017-2018 school year.

Huge thanks to everyone who came out, and to those who made this event possible, including the Mariposa Museum and staff, CLiF Board members (past and present) Jen Alexander, Beth Healy, and Stephanie Minteer, past CLiF grantees Julie Perrin of Jaffrey Public Library (formerly of 2016-2017 Rural Libraries recipient Stephenson Memorial Library), Kath Mullen & Megan Neurock of Cutler Elementary School, Roteract for providing a volunteer to pour beverages, and Sunflowers Restaurant & Catering for the tasty treats!

It was an evening to remember. We look forward to partnering with our new friends in the Monadnock Region!
