All of CLiF’s programs are free and awarded via grant application. Here are the currently open grants:

At-Risk Children (Spring 2020)
Deadline: December 11, 2019

What the Grant Provides:
-A storytelling presentation with one of CLiF’s presenters
-An optional parent discussion on tips for reading with kids
-An onsite children’s library for the program
-Two new books for each child to choose

Who Is Eligible:
Programs serving low-income, at-risk, and rural kids in Vermont or New Hampshire. Past partners include childcare centers, after school programs, homeless shelters, affordable housing communities, mentoring programs, immigrant/refugee programs, and more.

School-based programs (such as after school programs or ELL classes) are eligible to apply, though entire schools are not eligible (see Year of the Book grant for whole schools).

Early Childcare Literacy Training
*Limited to Upper Valley Childcare Centers Only*
Deadline: December 11, 2019

What the Grant Provides:
-$100/person for refreshments at a viewing party to watch CLiF’s 18-minute training video on reading with young kids
-10 new children’s books for each provider
-A certificate of professional training

Who is Eligible: Childcare centers in the Upper Valley of Vermont/New Hampshire

Note: This is a pilot program currently being tested in the Upper Valley only.

Year of the Book (2020-2021 School Year)
Deadline: January 29, 2020

What the Grant Provides:
$25,000 in literacy programming and new books, including many author visits and workshops, family literacy events, new books for classrooms, the school library, and the local public library, plus ten new books for each child to choose for themselves!

Who Is Eligible:
Elementary schools in New Hampshire and Vermont that serve at least 35% of students qualifying for free/reduced lunch and at least 30% underperforming on reading and writing assessments.

Rural Libraries (2020-2021 School Year)
Deadline: April 29, 2020

What the Grant Provides:
-Two storytelling events with CLiF presenters (Fall/Spring)
-$2,000 in new children’s books for the library (selected by librarian)
-$500 in new children’s books for the local elementary school library (selected by librarian)
-$250 mini-grant for library programming
-2 new books for each child to choose at finale event

Who Is Eligible: Public libraries in New Hampshire or Vermont towns with population of 5,000 or less
