Got a “summer reader” in your life? How would he or she like a bundle of brand new books to read on the beach, at the playground, in a treehouse, or anywhere inviting this summer? Enter our Summertime Reading Contest on Facebook for a chance to win 15 brand new books and give other children access to books too! Help us fight the summer slide.
According to studies done by John Hopkins University Center for Summer Learning, all students experience learning loss over the summer when they are not involved in educational activities. To help curb this summer slide, CLIF partners with summer camps, library programs, and summer lunch programs to bring Summer Readers – which provides storytelling and books – to children during summer vacation. Organizations who receive a Summer Readers event have demonstrated that the children they serve are low-income or otherwise at risk for growing up with low literacy skills.
You can support Summer Readers by making a donation of at least $25 – the amount it costs to deliver this program to one child – to CLiF. Once you make a donation and follow the simple “contest rules”, you will be entered into a raffle to win a bundle of 15 brand new books!
Here’s how it works:
1. If you aren’t already, please become our friend on Facebook by “liking” our page.
2. Share the post about this contest on your own Facebook wall (by hitting the “share” button under the post).
3. Make a donation of at least $25 to CLiF (via Donation Pay or by check).
Note: If you are donating via Donation Pay, please use the “In Honor of” donation form and type “Summertime Reading” as the honoree first name. If donating by check, be sure to include the memo “Summertime Reading” in your donation, and mail the check to the address at the bottom right hand side of this page.
Once we’ve received your donation and verified that you’ve done steps one and two, you will be entered into our drawing.
On Thursday, June 27th, we will draw a name and announce the winner of our Summertime Reading Contest. We will send you a bundle of 15 brand new books for that special summer reader in your life! That’s over $100 worth of crisp, clean, exciting titles for your kid(s) to read this summer and beyond! (Before sending books, we will ask you the age and interests of your child/children so we can choose appropriate titles.)
